When you are eight years old, the world is a lot bigger than you. Most people are a lot bigger than you. And the inside of your own head, is a lot bigger than you. So it's easy to see why an eight year old boy would be afraid of the dark. The dark contains everything that he doesn't know which, at this point, is most things. The dark contains the inside of his head. And it stands to reason that everything in the darkness is much, much bigger than he is.

So, I ask you, Dear Reader, is that a man standing outside the window, rasping husky breaths? Or is that a shadow on the cave wall of an eight year old's mind? Stay tuned, Connoisseurs, and the answer will be revealed, all in due time...
